Negative Calorie Foods

Posted by Easy Weight Loss | January 11, 2009 .

In this article, we will give you some of a very good negative calorie foods list but you have to understand exactly what they are first.

While it is impossible for any foods to have negative calories, the term relates to the concept of a food that takes more energy to burn than you consume. So the amount of energy it takes for you to eat and digest the food is greater than the amount of calories in the food itself.

An example, even though it’s a fluid, is diet soda which has 0 calories and is considered a negative calorie product because of that. It takes your body energy to bring your blood temperature back up to normal and because of that, a glass of ice water can really help you burn calories in your body as well. Therefore, you shouldn’t be too depressed about consuming 2-3L’s of water a day as it will help you out even further.

There is not a big list of foods that are considered negative calorie foods. Celery is one example which a lot of people enjoy and it takes more energy for you to chew, swallow, and digest it than there are calories in the celery alone.

Negative calorie foods appeal to people who have eating disorders because they can make a whole meal and diet off of just negative calorie foods. While you can get full off of negative calorie foods, it doesn’t provide you with all of the nutrients that you need and can result in getting diagnosed with nutritional deficiencies later on down the road and this could even occur within a few weeks for some people. Usually, the calories that are burnt come from your muscles and that will definitely not help your body at all.

A healthy method of using a negative calorie diet is to use it like a fast and only go about it temporarily. Most fasts are too difficult, even ones that are just with liquids, and that is because of the hunger pangs. If you can keep yourself full with negative calorie foods, you should be okay. This would be something in particular that you may use right after Christmas time when you ate a little too much. This is not something that you should use for a long period of time and you should discuss it with your doctor before start the fast.

It’d be a really bad move if you were to eat a lot of one type of food and this is especially correct for fruits. For the most part, if you consume too much of one kind of food, it can cause bodily damages because you are consuming too much of a certain ingredient. With pineapples and grapefruits, it can cause damage to your body because of the amount of acid in them and can result in liver pains and can lead to having diarrhea so it is a good idea to try to widen your horizon when experimenting with negative calorie foods.

It’s best if you were to mix negative calorie foods with a normal diet. Therefore, have 2-4 negative calorie meals a week and try to make up as many negative calorie snacks as you possibly can.

Now that you have a little bit of knowledge about negative calorie foods, here is a look at just some which would be considered negative calorie foods.
